Windy Day

I just checked and it has been months since I updated the life of Walker.  Shame on me.

He is just great!  Our life tho with family has been sad.  On Good Friday John's older brother died and then on Easter Sunday a second brother died.  In light of age I don't think they were so old .  One was 76 and the other 73 so in my opinion that is not old, as I am 73.

Anyway it has been very sad around here.  The sun has been out and we are able to get out in the yard and pull weeds and get sore muscles so that takes some of the heart ache away.

For a couple of days the wind has blown quite a bit and lots of debris has fallen on the beautiful green lawn but at least we didn't lose power like many folks did.

Walker doesn't seem to be very fond of the wind.  Nothing in particular just that he would go under the lilac bush if I wasn't out and about.

Like most dogs he loves to bury a bone in freshly rototilled dirt.  It is always a dead give away when he shows up with a very dirty nose.  He doesn't leave them very long and goes and finds a new  place to bury it.

I had baked a huge ham on Sunday and then I gave him the large ham bone and it has been buried numerous time already to day.

Walker still loves the water and I hope to get down to the creek and see if he will come all the way out with me.  It is going to have to been quite a bit warmer for me to take a dip but summer is on the way.

Sorry no pics at this time but Walker is sure a huge part of our lives.

Cold Weather and Ice

Somehow I deleted the first post when I tried adding a photo.  It has been way too long since I posted anything about Walker.  He is still being a puppy but he has started to really listen to commands good.  Sit, stay, wait, leave it are the best but stay needs a lot of work.

It isn't his fault you know.  He will only do what I insist that he do and then I need to be consisitent.  Right???

Well his drinking water out of his own nice clean water dish is almost nil.  If I add lots of ice cubes he will take them an eat them and play with them and maybe lap a bit of water.

Mostly he goes out to our water trough and gets a drink while also playing in the water by running back and forth and biting at the water.  So when the trough froze over during our cold snap he was in a pickle but far from having fun on the ice.  At first when it wasn't solid he could jump up into the trough and break thru and then grab a chunk of ice and throw it out and jump down and eat it or throw it around.

So that left him few options but the smart dog that he is came up with another plan.  While I was running water in the bathroom sink he came in got on the edge of the tub and proceeded to get his drink.  I don't mind that but I do have to close the door to the bathroom if I want peace and quiet while taking a shower.  Other wise he gets in the tub with me and drinks from the tub.

Just like having kids again.  Even the bathroom needs to be in lock down or no peace.

We having been taking several day trips to watch our Grandson wrestle so we take him along.  For some reason I just hate to think of him all alone at home in his kennel, so he goes with.  We can travel about an hour or hour and a half and he starts to whine and pant.  That means it is potty time.  Now I mean big potty time.  So a couple of weeks ago we made it as far as Snow Bunny parking and this week we made it almost to Banks on our way to Tillamook.  that is also good for us as then we can stretch our legs.

He is still lots of fun.  He know when we are getting ready to go some place because he knows he gets to go with us.  He does seem to know on Sunday tho that he won't be going with us to church.  Like I said he is pretty smart.

In the mornings all John has to say is "Do you want to go get the paper?" and toward the door he goes.  Now if John could just teach him to jump up and get the paper out of the box.  He is smart but that might be stretching it a bit.  Maybe we should work on that.
